3-second answer: Click but no lock movement = the actuator's internal motor or gear is dead (or the linkage popped off). Swap the actuator (~$20-30) — door panel off (see [door panel removal](/problems/door-panel-removal/)), 3 bolts, plug, done. Won't work in winter only = lube the linkage and check the door seal — frozen moisture, not the motor.
Diagnose
- Click + no movement = actuator motor/gear or popped linkage rod.
- Nothing at all, one door = the actuator or its wiring/plug.
- Nothing at all, all doors = the driver's door switch module, the fuse, or the keyless module — the driver's door actuator also contains the switch contacts that fire all locks (the classic: driver's door dead = all locks dead).
- Works sometimes / slow = worn gear or a sticky linkage — lube first, replace if it persists.
The swap
- Door panel off.
- Peel the vapor barrier (carefully — it reseals).
- Unplug + unbolt the actuator (3 bolts), pop the linkage clips.
- Reverse. Test all lock functions before resealing the panel.
